Our pastor, the Rev. Dr. James Sinclair, has served within the American Baptist Churches, USA family and extended family for over 30 years. He earned his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Andover Newton Theological School, and recently has begun his eighth year as the pastor here at First Baptist. Jim loves the institutional church even as he seeks to move a small part of it toward greater continuity between belief and action. Jim loves the people summoned by God to be part of First Baptist, and enjoys being one seeker among many here.
As our pastor, Jim focuses much of his time praying for the members and friends of the church, staying abreast of theological trends, reading and studying Scripture, keeping in touch with the people, and trying to make his sermon relevant. A concept he expresses often is not unique to him, nor an original quote. He recalls a seminary professor once saying that when preparing and preaching a sermon, it is a good idea to keep the Bible in one hand and a newspaper in the other.
Jim is married to Julie. They have several children of which three are adults, a daughter-in-law, and a grand-daughter, all of whom are wonderful blessings.
Mr. Walter Bailey is our office manager. He has served well in that capacity for over 10 years. He is a dependable presence in our office. Walter stays on top of many of the little things that go unnoticed. He organizes parishioner data, filters and sorts the mail, and troubleshoots the office equipment or finds someone who can. Walter always is looking for better and more efficient ways to do things. Retired from the city of Waltham, and a Navy veteran, Walter brings to his work the same kind of passion for public service that led him to his earlier careers.
Ms. Elizabeth Keusch is our organist and choir director. Also, Beth is one of our soloists. Her singing and that of Maxwell Li’s enhance our worship services. As a vocalist, one of Beth’s specialties is difficult music, at which she excels. As our organist and choir director, Beth works well with our choir. She is a patient and professional director who pays attention to the little things that are so important to a choir. Our organ was refurbished a little over a year ago, and Beth gets the most out of it.
Our church is blessed with two custodians, Roselvia and Fredy Orozco. They work tirelessly to keep our church clean and tidy. Roselvia focuses on the building, and Fredy on the grounds, yet it is quite common to see them working together on a project. They diligently work to keep things in order, and to keep the church looking beautiful inside and out.
